“Shelter in Solitude” Makes Its Debut At Kevin Smith’s SModCastle Film Festival
Tuesday – November 8th, 2022
I’m proud to announce, and extremely fortunate, to be providing some background harmonica “stylings” throughout this movie. Special thanks goes out to Dave Stefanic for bringing me onboard, and to the multi-talented Kyle Ward (composer) whose work is tremendous in this film. And of course a huge thanks to Siobhan Fallon Hogan (writer & producer) of whom I had the pleasure of meeting and collaborating with in one of the studio sessions. The movie made its debut on November 30th at Kevin Smith’s SModCastle Film Festival. However, please be patient … distribution happens in 2023. You’ll get to see it then. Much thanks to my family, friends, and those who have been a positive influence in my musical journey.

In addition to the contribution on harmonica I was fortunate provide throughout Kyle’s score, you’ll be able to hear the amazing local New Jersey talents of Kyle (Keys, Drums, Guitars), Lawrence Haber (Bass), Bobby Baxmeyer (Violin), and I in a country dance tune and one of character Val’s (played by Siobhan) recordings.

UPDATE: Sunday – December 10th, 2023
It’s the announcement I’ve been waiting for, and I hope you’re as excited as I am. “Shelter In Solitude” is now available on your favorite viewing device. Rent (or buy) the movie, preferably via Amazon Prime Video. You don’t need a Prime membership to rent and watch the movie. Of course, Amazon does need to know who you are, so you’ll have to create an account if you don’t have one. Rent it now, then activate and view it when you’re ready. Once you do activate the rental, Amazon gives you 48 hours to watch as many times as you like on any device that you link to Amazon (i.e. tablet, smart phone, smart TV, computer, etc).
I had the pleasure of providing harmonica throughout the movie. You’ll hear my “stylings” in two of the country and line dance tunes. In addition, there’s jailhouse, bar room, and special character scenes where you’ll hear me providing sounds on the “blues harp” as well. In other words, if you hear harmonica, it’s me. Let me know what you think. I’d love to hear from you.

The “Shelter in Solitude” Soundtrack Is Now Available On Amazon Music, iTunes, Spotify, and More
UPDATE: Sunday – December 24th, 2023
Wow, the album is incredible. Kyle Ward (composer) did an amazing job selecting and arranging the order of the musical pieces from the movie. The score features amazing local New Jersey talent, musicians you’ve probably seen performing with their respective bands if you’re from the Monmouth or Ocean County areas. It highlights the songwriting talents of Dave Stefanic. The composer himself, Kyle, is on keys, strings, drums, bass, and guitar, to name just a few of the instruments. Lawrence Haber can heard slapping the upright bass on some tracks. The multi-talented Bobby Baxmeyer can be heard laying down some country riffs on the fiddle in a few tunes. Stu Ottenstein kills it on drums. I had the pleasure of playing on several tracks (which I’ll designate below), even sharing some scoring credit for a few as well. Can you guess where harmonica was placed or used in the tracks? You’d be surprised.

Not included in the album’s original score, but a spotlighted song in the movie, is one entitled “Heartache Rodeo” by Justin Biltonen of 3 Doors Down. Part of this song makes its way into a scene where Val (played by Siobhan Fallon Hogan) and Kevin (played by Michael Oberholtzer) sing it as a duet to a crowd before the bar is shutdown for the COVID pandemic. The actual song in the movie is performed by Justin and Siobhan, and this is the recording that’s available to you below. You can download or listen to it in its entirety through one of these links here:

The song is also available as a single with Justin on vocals:

When you watch the movie, there’s another song that you can hear being sung by Siobhan Fallon Hogan which was written by Todd Cameron back in 2021. Siobhan and Todd collaborated in a special session that features Siobhan on vocals. It can be heard over the trailing credits. The song is called “Soul in These Boots”. You can download or listen via these links here:

Todd has also released a version of the song that features him on vocals:

Keep in mind that if you have the “Unlimited” or “Premium” subscription to Amazon Music, Apple iTunes, or Spotify, you most likely can already listen to all these albums and songs free of charge because they’re probably included with your subscription. As more information and providers are presented to me, I’ll update this article with more download and streaming options. I personally enjoyed all the music in this film. I’m sure you will too.
